What people want to know first

Grouped by family law, wills and estates, and conveyancing, with a few questions about working with us.

Is the first consultation really free?

Yes. The first 30-minute consultation is at no charge, whatever your matter. You meet the right lawyer, explain your situation, and leave knowing your options and likely costs before you commit to anything.

Do you charge fixed fees?

For conveyancing, yes, fixed-fee as standard. For family law and wills and estates, fees depend on the matter, and we set these out clearly after your free consultation so there are no surprises.

How long does a separation or parenting matter take?

It depends on whether both parties agree on arrangements for children and property. Straightforward matters can resolve in weeks through mediation; contested matters through the courts take longer. We give you a realistic timeframe after hearing the details.

Do I have to go to court to separate?

No. Many families resolve parenting and property matters through mediation, without going near a courtroom. Catherine Hale, our accredited family law specialist, can advise whether mediation suits your situation.

What does a mediation session involve?

You and the other party meet with a mediator to work through parenting or property arrangements directly, with legal advice available throughout. It is often faster and less costly than litigation.

What happens if I die without a will?

Your estate is distributed under a fixed legal formula, which may not reflect your wishes. Daniel Okafor, our senior associate in wills and estates, can draft a will that sets out exactly what you want.

Should I update my will after a divorce or new baby?

Yes. Marriage, separation, divorce and new children are the most common reasons a will stops reflecting your wishes. We recommend reviewing your will whenever your family circumstances change.

How long does conveyancing take for a house purchase?

Timeframes depend on your contract dates and finance conditions. Our conveyancer, Sophie Tran, manages the settlement process and keeps you informed of every step and deadline.

Can you act for both buying and selling at once?

Yes. We regularly manage conveyancing for Adelaide home buyers who are selling one property and buying another, coordinating both settlements where timing allows.

Where are you located and what are your hours?

We're on Pirie Street, Adelaide, open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm. Call us on 08 5550 1265 or book a consultation online at a time that suits you.
